John Powell (London, September 18, 1963) is a British film composer who is active mainly in the United States. Powell played the violin as a child before he studied at London's Trinity College Conservatory of Music. He later turned to jazz and rock music, and played in the soul band "The Fabulistics". Even when he left school, he composed music for commercials. This brought him into contact with composer Patrick Doyle, where he became assistant.
